About the Author
Thomas L. Friedman is a renowned American journalist, columnist and author from Minneapolis, graduated with a Masters degree in Middle East Studies from Oxford in 1978. He has been a celebrated reporter for New York Times ever since 1981, stationed in Beirut as the Times Beirut bureau chief from 1982-1984, moving on to the Times Israel bureau chief from 1984-1988, subsequently becoming chief White House correspondent for the Times in 1992. During that era, Friedman won the Pulitzer Prize twice, first in 1983 and then in 1988 for distinguished commentary in international reporting. He has written several books, the first of which, From Beirut to Jerusalem, published in 1989 won both the 1989 National Book Award and 1989 Overseas Press Club Award. His 1999 work The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization won him another Overseas Press Club Award in 2000. He went on to win the Pulitzer price for commentary for the third time in 2002. His most recent work The World is Flat found a spot in the New York Times best seller list for two years between 2005 and 2007, during which time it was revised twice. He became part of the Pulitzer board in 2004.
Friedman mostly writes about political and economic issues, and has a profound perspective on globalization. On the political front, he has paid particular attention to terrorism and American foreign policies dealing with the same.
