According to the Introduction the author originally intended to write two separate volumes. One detailing the “technical-political web of unprecedented negative implications” of technology (Mander p. 4). And the other to de-romanticize Dee Brown’s exploration of the Native Indian perspective in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and attempts to enlighten the reader about how they are still “suffering varying degrees of impacts from the expansion of Western technological society” (Mander p. 5).
In order to reach his objective he has divided his book into four parts. In each section he lays out arguments in a very straightforward and progressive manner. Signaling to the reader the true objective of the book is not to view its parts as a separate entity. Rather as one complete argument against the de-humanization of society as a whole.
