The soldiers are caught in the dilemma of the blurring line of illusion and reality. Despite the fect that they are in war they show from their acts that the situation has been forced upon them therefore they seek every source of escape in Vietnam.

The soldiers are supposed to be courageous and brave but they are frightened at the slightest noise that they hear. They seek escape in drugs and smoking marijuana. They use religion as a source of escape from the reality that is horrible. They assume that their faith would save their lives and they would return to their homes but their wishes go unfulfilled. When they face reality they find it difficult to cope with as they had been living in the world of illusions. They forget the fact that war and death treats every human being alike.
