Because of the continuous debates on the implementation of the inclusion program, this study will focus on the pros and cons of the program on high school students in their mathematics subject. The study will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the inclusion program in the perspective of the high school students and teachers.
Background and Justification
The purpose of the inclusion program is based on the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, which is to assure that a free and suitable education can be accessed by all students who have learning disabilities. Furthermore, the program suggests that all students, regardless of capacity should be included in the regular classroom setting (Yanni, 2006). However, this program has brought many criticisms from teachers, students, as well as parents in terms of its effectiveness. Many teachers pointed out that implementing the program would stretch their teaching capabilities to the limits because of the wide variety of students in the class.
