Culture is what defines a language and its use in every society. It has been theorized that since stereotypes are cognitive functions it may be possible to expose people to these cultures and languages. This can be done so that they can perceive this new information and remove negative connotations towards social groups.
A study by the same author showed that by increasing contact information between an individual and a culture by direct or indirect means it can help to reduce any stereotypes they may have and see people as singular individuals rather than placing them in a group and ascribing a single identity. Because social identity is related to culture and culture is related to language, learning languages and embracing another group’s culture can have many positive aspects (Eksi, 2009).
