Core Concept 3: Solidarity—the ties that bind people to one another and shape their interactions—can be mechanical or organic.
The interaction between my family members was often restricted to cultural and traditional events. I rarely ever saw any member of my family have a close personal relation to each other. Their interactions were more out of necessity rather than choice since their gatherings were based on traditions rather than personal preference.
Their interactions with other family members were not personalized and were careful not to infringe upon certain social norms. However, when I was with my friends, our interactions were not based on our family background or our traditional preferences. We did not base our discussion on familial matters or everyday happenings of society. We would converse about a wide variety of topics, anything which would seem interesting at the time.
