Antilochus, the son of Nestor, informs Achilles about the death of Patroclus and Achilles is greatly grieved. In honor of Patroclus, Achilles several funeral games due to their long life friendship besides being a colleague. During his grieving period, Achilles’ mother, Thetis also comes to console Achilles and she pleads with Hephaestus to make an armor for Achilles. This Armor was to replace that of Patroclus that is taken away by Hector. The shield of Achilles includes this armor.
The death of Patroclus affected Achilles so much that decides to get back to the battlefield to fight with a goal of killing Hector. Due the battle, Achilles kills so many Trojans and even angers Scamander, the god of the rivers for polluting the water with dead men. At a certain point of time, Scamander tried to drawn Achilles for this act but Hephaestus and Hear intervened. Zeus notes of Achilles anger and just like the residents of Troy who are concerned about their fate since Achilles seems to killing all the residents in revenge against the killing of Patroclus.
