The environmental model focuses on the way a person adjusts himself and his life to the environment as situations change. Its main focus is the things that are outside the individual that are affecting his health. These can include the air, water, harmful substances (Edlin and Golanty, 4-6).
The environmental approach moves away from the physical aspect as the medical approach does. However, it still has shortcomings in that it totally ignores the biological, mental and spiritual aspects that have an effect on our health.
Finally, we have the holistic model. This model is all encompassing in that it defines wellness in terms on the whole person. That is the physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and environmental parts of the person. This model focuses on how one can be physically healthy and be in a position to prevent the occurrence of diseases, how they can be emotional and mentally positive.
